Discover the genesis of our church,
a narrative of vision and commitment.
In the year 1987, Pastor Welton “Papi” Esprit, together with his wife Maurina “Rinnah,” received a prophecy: that God would use them on their island, initially with the youth, children, adults, and also that God would make their ministry great.
Upon returning from Singapore in 1987, along with his wife Maurina and 11 men and women, they were in daily prayer in the corner of their home seeking God’s direction. In 1987, after mobilizing and fulfilling the role of an evangelist, God called Papi Esprit to the position of pastor. This was something the salsa singer and apostle Bobby Cruz had prophesied to Papi since 1983. In October 1987, the organization New Song, initially more of an evangelistic organization, began to function “officially” as a church.
We say “officially” because in fact, Papi and Maurina Esprit already had 22 people (they started with 13) in their home, helping to care for and guide them. The church continued to grow, and by November, without any campaigns or advertising, they had around 130 souls. In 1989, Papi Esprit was also anointed as an apostle of the Lord. At that moment, something happened, and a new era began for the church. When the church was gathering at the Esprit couple’s home in Semikok, some neighbors began to complain and protest against the New Song church.
Subsequently, they journeyed from one place to another, from the building of the “Sentro di Siegunan” to the “Sentro Totolika”, “Industrie Park Brievengat”, some schools, and various Ranches. In 1990, they began to meet at “Hòfi Joonchi” on Olindaweg. Workers’ meetings took place at different locations, with “Asenshon” at Banda’bou and “Buurtcentrum Koraal Specht” being the most used. Workers’ meetings included manifestations of God’s presence where they experienced the power of miracles and liberation with many manifestations of His various gifts. Also, with tremendous teachings.
At “Hòfi Joonchi” on Olindaweg in Groot Kwartier, the New Song Church stayed until December 2000 when they had the opportunity to enter the building that had been a supermarket until a few weeks earlier. In 2003, they started the process to purchase the place, and by faith, they titled the building as the New Song Building. Today, they can say that with God’s help, they bought the building.
